There has been a virtual explosion of social networking sites in the past couple of years. Even the big players like Google, Yahoo and MSN are getting into it.

With so much interest in how social networks work, one begins to wonder if there is marketing potential within these social networks?

I’ve been watching social networking for some time now. In fact I’m a member of various social networking sites including http://www.myspace.com/ and https://www.linkedin.com just to name two.

I joined partly because I wanted to see what they were, but more importantly to see what impact social networking would have on SEM in the coming years.

I’ve been a member of various services for some time and the reach these sites have is incredible.

For example, from my LinkedIn network of seven people I have an expanded network of over 12,600 people.

Imagine that – I’m only a click or two away from close to 13,000 other people who share my similar interests ranging from what I like to watch on TV to work I could provide to them.

Through my connections and their connections, I’m connected to people ranging from the American Cancer Society, to Sun Microsystems to the University of Texas to Google.

But what marketing opportunities are there for Social Networking?

Well, let’s look at MySpace.

MySpace is one of the top sites on the Web today. It racked up 9.4 billion page-views in August 2005 (more than Google) and new users are signing up at a mind-boggling rate of 3.5 million a month.

We have been hearing a lot online and offline about the Law of Attraction. Even Oprah Winfrey is a believer in it. However, many people want to believe but just can’t seem to get it to work or don’t know how to work. Well I’m here to show you how to!

All the ancient texts and religious writtings speak of it. Poets, teachers and sages have prnouched the good news of it for thousands of years. Books have been written about it. Songs have been song about it and people have made a fortune teaching it. But do you know enough about it to use it? The Law Of Attraction is probably the most powerful Universal Principle we know of, do you think, perhaps, you should learn a little more about it and maybe even use it to create your dreams?

The Law Of Attraction at its very basic level states that everything is created by thought and that thought attracts to itself physical things, people, situations and circumstances. Your predominant thoughts are activating the Law of Attraction this very moment and bringing these things into your life!

However, we do not just create and attract the material things that enter our lives, we also create the body we occupy, the personality we display and, ultimately, the person we are and we do it all through our thoughts. Are you creating the life you desire & becoming the person you wish to be or are you like Job and bringing upon you all manner of woes because you are giving your attention to them? Perhaps you are even identifying yourself as a victim and refusing to acknowledge the Law and use it consciously!

The Law Of Attraction is not as big a Secret, as the hit movie would have you believe. Having been in existence since the very begining of time, it is an unyielding, never bending, unbreakable Uiversal Rule. You cannot escape it! There is a great body of evidence that suggests mankind has known about, and utilised, the great Law for about 7000 years. But these teachings were hidden for thousands of years by those people who wished to control the population. Through hiding the laws of the universe and the knowledge that we create our own realities these dogmatic leeches could keep all the power for themselves and ensure no-one opposed their rule. The great Law Of Attraction was actually banned in the past.

It was largely at the beginning of the 20th century that the general public started to become aware of this great law due to the diligence, fortitude, integrity and grace of writers such as James Allen (1864-1912), Napoleon Hill (1883-1970) and Charles Haanel (1866-1949).

Wallace D. Wattles, born in 1860 and died in 1911, was also a forward thinking man. In his great work “The Science of Getting Rich” Wattles states a great truth, “There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made, which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe. A thought in this substance produces the thing that is imaged by the thought.” How revolutionary that statement was in 1910.

Haanel set out in a 24 part correspondence course, which is now condensed into one volume called “The Master Key System”, a complete guide to successfully using the Law Of Attraction! It was banned by the Church in 1933 due to its revelations. This is allegedly the book Bill Gates read before he created Microsoft!

Napoleon Hill revealed Andrew Carnegie’s great Secret to the world – that thoughts create things – when he wrote “Think & Grow Rich” in 1937 (although it had taken him 25 years to complete).

James Allen wrote his famous work in 1912 and in “As a Man Thinketh” he tells people that “mind is the master-weaver, both of the inner garment of character and the outer garment of circumstance, and that, as they may have hitherto woven in ignorance and pain they may now weave in enlightenment and happiness.”

However, although the teachings have been around for thousands of years and they have been readily and easily available to the general public for almost a century the great majority of people do not take the time to learn the workings of probably the most powerful physical law in the Universe.

I think you owe it to yourself to delve deeper into this mysterious Universe and learn as much as you can about the laws that govern your life. When you truly understand the Law Of Attraction and begin to work with it for you personal advantage, I promise you, your life will change in fantastic, unexpected and unlimited ways.

Begin now to utilise this gift and construct in your imagination the life you really want to live. Seek out ways to remove your own inner resistance and limiting beliefs.

Starting a home business while still employed can be intimidating at times. A busy work schedule and home life along with the pressures of starting a business are enough to raise anyone’s blood pressure. It can be accomplished, however, with a little patience, clear home business goals and a fresh cup of coffee.

Working Towards “Something”

Being realistic with your schedule is also crucial. Don’t work yourself into a coma. Plan your home business schedule while considering other aspects of your life. You don’t want to neglect your family or your primary source of income. If you can only work on your business five hours per week, then put forth your best effort during those five hours to make the most of it.

While a few people may make a lot of money in a short period of time with network marketing, most grow their business slowly. First, they must learn the business and how to market it as their own home based business. By devoting a set number of hours every day or every week they learn from the company sponsoring them how to market the product or service they are selling. They can then train others to be successful, teaching them to market the product or service and make money from their sales as well. The more people they have working under them, the more money they can make.

I’ve read a very good book “Influence” by Robert Cialdini. I started reading the book because of my interest in marketing, but in the chapter “Social Proof” I’ve found something very interesting connected with manifestation and the law of attraction.

In this chapter Dr Cialdini gives interesting statistics: immediately after highly publicized suicide stories the number of people who die in commercial-airline crashes increases by 1,000 percent. The number of people who die in car crashes increases dramatically as well.

The author analyzes the reasons why so many people die in crashes after highly publicized suicides. The first suggestion is that people commit suicides because of stressful socio-economic conditions. While some people commit suicides in such conditions, the others because of stress, become angry or nervous or impatient or distracted and cause fatal crashes.

But the socio-economic conditions are not the reason. The increase in accidents happens only in places where the suicides are highly publicized. In the places with the same conditions or even worst, if the suicides are not publicized, there is no increase in airplane and car crashes.

Another suggestion is that usually the suicides of famous and respected people are most publicized. This makes people so sad that they become careless around cars and airplanes. It’s a “bereavement” explanation. But from the statistics we know that “newspaper stories reporting on suicide victims who died alone produce an increase in the frequency of single-fatality wrecks only, whereas stories reporting on suicide-plus-murder incidents produce an increase in multiple-fatality wrecks only” (Influence p.141) We can clearly see that plane and car crashes are influenced by suicide stories, not by social conditions or sadness caused by deaths of respected people.

Another explanation comes from David Phillips and Dr Cialdini finds it brilliant. It’s called “Werther effect”. Werther is a hero from Johann von Goethe’s novel “The Sorrows of Young Werther” In the book the hero Werther commits suicide. The book had strong influence on many young people in Europe two centuries ago. Many people committed suicide, copying Werther. The book was banned in several countries.

According to Phillips some people kill themselves in imitation. Others who for different reasons, like reputations, insurance policies etc., decide to crash airplanes or cars to make their suicides look accidental.

There is more interesting information in Cialdini’s book, but there’s no space in this article to write about it. For most scientists David Phillips’ explanation seems the best one. Of course there are some quantum physicists now who find the law of attraction the best explanation for sharp increase in plane and car crashes after highly publicized suicides.

According to the law of attraction we attract what we mostly think about. When someone commits suicide and there’s a lot about it in the news, people think about it, become emotional, think about death and attract death. Of course I can’t scientifically prove the law of attraction, but I’m personally convinced that we attract the things we think about a lot, especially with emotion and when we worry about something.

About fifteen years ago when I traveled in India with a group of friends, two of my friends after reading about all bacteria and amoebas which can cause serious illnesses became very afraid of drinking water. We were all careful, but my two friends became so afraid that they used bottled water even to clean their teeth. The rest of us enjoyed traveling in India and didn’t worry about amoebas. When we came back to Europe, my “worried” friends became sick and amoeba was found in their bodies. They wowed never to go to India again. The rest of us was fine, we didn’t attract amoeba. Was it an accident that only my two “worried” friends got ill?

Later I moved to Thailand, where I felt very safe. I didn’t worry about any dangers, because I’d heard from other foreigners that is a very safe place and my experience was the same. Later when I got cable TV, I also got a free subscription of the local newspaper, so I started reading it every day. Then I learned about fighting between students of vocational schools, when they not only sometimes kill each other, but also accidentally innocent people on the street sometimes die during the fights. I learned about suicides, murders and robberies. I was pretty shocked and not knowing about the law of attraction started thinking that it’s not really such a safe place. Soon I saw a fight with knives between students on the bus I was traveling. I saw drivers fighting on the street. I started seeing more fights and aggression than ever before. Clearly I started attracting what I read about in the papers. Or was it just an accident?

When I learned about Manifestation and the Law of Attraction I stopped reading the newspapers regularly. I read them rarely. I sometimes watch the news, but I don’t allow my mind to dwell on murders and suicides. You might think that it’s bad and that I don’t feel compassion for human suffering, but I think that dwelling on tragedies brings more tragedies. People talk a lot about war against terrorism, drugs and crime, and we have more terrorism, drugs and crime. Of course terrorism, drugs and crime must be eliminated, but by dwelling on them I personally can’t eliminate them I can only attract them into my life, which I don’t want.

“Where is light, there is no darkness”. We can’t remove darkness, but when we bring light there is no darkness. We can replace negative things with positive things. I’m not talking here about being naïve or foolish and not seeing the reality, but to change my current situation I need first to change my mental state. I need to think positively, and reading the news about crime, suicides and wars won’t improve my life. It makes me depressed and stressed, and brings more depression and stress into my life, so I’ve made a decision to concentrate on positive emotions.

You don’t have to believe in the law of attraction. There’s no need for scientific proof. You can make an experiment. Stop reading about the bad news and try to read more about happy things. Avoid reading about crime, suicides and violence. Read more about great and successful people. Watch more comedies than violent movies. Continue your experiment for some time and you’ll see the difference in your life.

You are most likely coming here as a follow up to my Part 5 of 5 articles on creating an online business. I hope you found part (1) one through part (5) informative and helpful. Today we are going to cover some advanced tips that can help you build a more efficient and profitable web site.

I have gone step-by-step through the process that I used to build my online business. Obviously, I cannot cover every small detail, but you can email me at any time should you have any questions. I will be happy to help you if I can. Especially if you follow the same steps as I have taken. I am very familiar with this particular process.

Now that your site is published and up and running, what do you do next?

This is very important! You must monitor it real time to ensure your site is converting as high as possible. You will have some products and services that will convert better than others. After a decent sampling time, perhaps a couple of hundred click throughs, I would consider putting the highest converters in the hot spots on your site. You may not understand what a click through is. Lets back up a bit. To understand your site, you will need to know when someone comes to your site, how long they stay, what pages they visit and where they exit. You can find many free counters that will give you that type of data. In addition each program normally offers some tracking information as to how many clicks and sales you have gotten. You are going to need a couple hundred clicks on each link to get a fair comparison. Many people are getting about a (1) one percent conversions rate on most programs. I have some that have converted as high as (25) twenty five percent. I’ll bet you can pick which ones are in my hot spots.

After receiving a couple hundred clicks on your links, you can then adjust your site as required. Here are a couple of questions to ask yourself on a regular basis and helpful hints on how to correct:

* How many clicks are you getting from your advertising? If people are clicking on your ads in droves, but are not staying long, not visiting your other pages nor clicking on any affiliate links then you probably do not have a good match up between your keywords and landing pages.
* How many people are staying around longer then 5 seconds on after coming to your site? If less then 2% are staying less then 5 seconds your either have poor traffic, probably free ads, or a poor keyword to landing page match up. I would suggest only using (PPC) Paid Per Click advertising until you get your website fine tuned a bit. Free ads often bring people clicking just because they are curious and not because they are looking for anything.
* How many of your keywords are bring you good traffic. Many times what you are looking for are long tail phrases, which are more often two to three word phrases not just one. Typically the one-word keywords get a lot of clicks, but no results. Your goal is to be as specific as possible i.e., getting yourself the best possible customers as possible.

Which one do you want to venture into?

Internet business? Or, network marketing business?

In my opinion, you have to find out what you really want (money, good contact, getting new knowledge etc.). Then learn and investigate. Yes, you might fail in either one of both – be it in network marketing or internet marketing. But sometimes, you don’t really fail but you’re actually progressing towards your goals.

Let me give you an analogy. You build a website and do lots of traffic generations, and you are spending your hard-earned money for two months now. Results – no sale. No income.

Then you quit, put down your website and look for other avenues of income.

What you didn’t know was…

If you keep doing what you’ve been doing, you will make your first sale on the third month, fourth month and so on. You will be generating income from your internet business. But, this all will never happen if your story was written only until month 2.

You might think that this story is fictitious and yeah, a story to make you feel good but nothing more than that, but what if I said that this actually happened to me? To tell you the truth, it really did happen to me and I hope it can be an inspiration to anyone reading this article too.

I made my first sale only after three months on the internet and by that time, I have spent lots of money powering up the business. But, it all is worth it now – knowing that I’ve got more than I invested before.

Back to internet marketing vs. network marketing…

My take is… find a way to do both.

I got a chance to read an ebook by Ann Sieg (http://therenegadenetworkmarketer.com ) and I believe it will be a good start to know more about doing network marketing on the internet.

Sieg talks about lead generation from the Internet and building an effective website to drive quality prospects to your network marketing program. All of this can be setup once and can passively attract prospects over and over again. For some of you, these are not something new but it works for him and it will definitely work for you too.

If you study carefully, there are many other internet marketers joining or considering to join an internet based network marketing program. I know that they already make lots of money from their internet business, but why are they still looking into network marketing?

Probably it’s not money they are looking for.

Probably it’s because of the value in the network marketing program itself.

Probably because they are having fun just to be around successful people in another business field.

Whatever it is, you can have both internet and network marketing as your income generator.

Pulling it all together:

1. Load up the page rotator for your free home based business with web pages of all the products you wish to sell. I suggest starting with no more than three.
2. Then create a tinyurl for your page rotator.
3. Place advertisements in every directory you can find
4. Add your link to the bottom of your emails
5. Join every free traffic exchange you can
6. Write and submit an article per week with your tinyurl in the bio line
7. Find a number of active forums and post helpful messages making sure your tinyurl is included in your signature line.
8. Start you own free blog. Put a new entry in your blog at least once per week. Make sure there are plenty of links to your free home based business products from your blog. Always announce your blog updates using the tool at www.pingomatic.com.

Your objective is to get as many links back to your page rotator as you possibly can. The more people who see you links the more traffic to your rotator and the more sales you will make.

There it is, the basis of a free home based business and the start of your online empire.
